I had high hopes for an evening trip to Hest Bank near Morecambe, hoping to catch a glimpse of the much-talked-about blood moon. It sounded like the perfect opportunity to step out and enjoy a rare event in the night sky. I could already picture the moon glowing red, a stunning sight I’d been excited about for weeks.
Hest Bank is a peaceful spot by the coast, just a short drive from Morecambe, with views over the bay and the horizon. It seemed like the ideal place to watch the sky. But as soon as we arrived, it was clear the weather wasn’t going to cooperate. The usual damp, chilly air of the British coast was there, and thick clouds started rolling in fast, covering the sky.
We tried to stay hopeful as we set up, but no matter where we looked, there was nothing but grey clouds where the blood moon was supposed to be. The moon didn’t make an appearance, and there was no red glow to see, just a cloudy sky.
Even though I was disappointed, there was something calming about the evening. The quiet of the beach, the sound of the waves, and the cool breeze made for a peaceful atmosphere, even if it wasn’t the moon-watching experience I had imagined.
It wasn’t the night I had planned, but I reminded myself that there will always be another chance. The weather might not have given us the blood moon this time, but the calm of Hest Bank made up for it in its own way. Maybe next time, the weather will be on our side. Until then, I’ll remember the quiet evening and the hope that one day, I’ll finally get to see that blood moon.
