This weekend hasn’t exactly gone as planned. Instead of being out and about, rehearsing, or performing, I’ve been forced to slow things down thanks to a small infection of cellulitis in my right foot. As any musician will understand, anything that affects your ability to move or stand comfortably isn’t exactly welcome — especially when your calendar’s already filling up.
The good news is that it’s only a minor infection, and I’m doing all the right things: resting, keeping my foot elevated, and letting my body heal. It’s a reminder that sometimes our bodies have a way of telling us to pause, even when our minds are racing ahead to the next gig or project.
And, truth be told, the downtime hasn’t been wasted. I’ve been using these quieter moments to plan and work on this year’s Christmas at Home scenes. It’s one of my favourite seasonal projects, and this early creative work always sets the tone for the months ahead. There’s something quite comforting about sketching out ideas for festive performances while wrapped up indoors — even if I’d prefer to be doing it on two fully functioning feet!
So, while the weekend wasn’t exactly the one I had in mind, it’s been productive in its own way. With a bit more rest, I’m confident I’ll be back on my feet — literally — and ready for everything the next few weeks have in store.
