A Visit to Rufford Old Hall

This weekend, I’m heading to Rufford Old Hall, another National Trust house and gardens in West Lancashire. I’ve been enjoying exploring these historic sites, and I’m excited to see what this one has to offer. With its Tudor architecture, beautiful gardens, and fascinating history, it promises to be another great adventure.

Rufford Old Hall dates back to the 16th century and was once home to the Hesketh family. One of the most intriguing details about the house is that William Shakespeare is believed to have performed there as a young actor. I’m looking forward to stepping inside the grand Great Hall, which is said to be the highlight of the property, featuring an impressive wooden screen and intricate carvings.

I’m also curious to learn more about the legends and stories surrounding the house. Many National Trust properties have a few ghostly tales, so I wonder if Rufford Old Hall has its own eerie history.

The gardens at National Trust properties are always a highlight, and Rufford Old Hall seems to have some beautiful outdoor spaces. There are Victorian and Edwardian garden features, topiary-lined walkways, and even a canal running alongside the estate. If the weather is kind, I’ll take my time wandering through the woodland walk and see what wildlife I can spot along the way.

Of course, no visit to a National Trust site is complete without a stop at the tea room. I’m already looking forward to a warm drink and maybe a slice of homemade cake to end the visit on a cozy note.

I’m excited to see what Rufford Old Hall has in store. Each National Trust property I visit has its own unique charm, and I can’t wait to experience this one for myself. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts after the trip—who knows, it might even become one of my favorites.

Have you ever been to Rufford Old Hall? Let me know if there’s anything I should keep an eye out for.
