Last year I had the fantastic opportunity to visit MediaCityUK to watch a live recording of Wheel of Fortune It was a brilliant experience seeing how the show is put together, but today, I wanted to take a step back and give you an insight into the area itself. MediaCityUK is more than just a filming location; it’s a vibrant destination packed with entertainment, dining, and culture.
A Home for TV and Radio
MediaCityUK is best known as a major broadcasting hub, home to the BBC, ITV, and various production companies. Some of the UK’s most popular television shows are filmed here, including BBC Breakfast, Match of the Day, and The Voice UK. It’s also where Blue Peter, the longest-running children’s TV show in the world, is produced. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a live broadcast or spot a TV personality wandering around.

The Iconic Blue Peter Garden
Speaking of Blue Peter, one of the standout features of MediaCityUK is the famous Blue Peter Garden. Originally located at BBC Television Centre in London, the garden was moved to Salford in 2011. It remains a cherished spot, featuring sculptures, a pond, and memorials to beloved Blue Peter pets from over the years. It’s a great place to take a stroll and soak in a bit of TV history.

Bars, Restaurants, and Shopping
MediaCityUK isn’t just about TV – it’s a fantastic place to relax and unwind. The area boasts an array of bars and restaurants catering to all tastes, from casual cafés to stylish dining spots. Whether you fancy a quick coffee at Costa, a meal at The Alchemist, or a drink by the waterfront, there’s something for everyone.
Nearby, the Lowry Outlet Mall offers a range of shopping opportunities, with discounted high-street brands and a variety of eateries. And if you’re looking for a dose of culture, The Lowry Theatre is just a short walk away, hosting a variety of performances, from musicals to comedy and drama.
Easy Access via Metrolink
One of the best things about MediaCityUK is how easy it is to get to. The Metrolink tram service provides direct connections to Manchester city centre and beyond, making it simple to visit without the hassle of driving. Whether you’re coming from Piccadilly, Victoria, or even further afield, the transport links make it a convenient and well-connected destination.
A Great Day Out
MediaCityUK is a dynamic and exciting place, offering a mix of entertainment, history, and relaxation. Whether you’re visiting for a TV show, exploring the Blue Peter Garden, enjoying a meal, or catching a performance at The Lowry, there’s plenty to see and do.
