Living Close to the Countryside

There’s something really special about living so close to the rural countryside. That comforting blend of fresh air, open fields, and charming villages always brings a sense of peace that city life just can’t replicate. One of the many perks of where I live is being able to jump in the car and, within minutes, be somewhere like Rufford – a gem tucked away in the heart of the countryside.

Today, I spent the day wandering around Rufford, and as always, it didn’t disappoint. It’s most famous for its historical old hall – a beautiful, atmospheric place that gives you a glimpse into centuries past. Whether you’re into history or just enjoy a quiet walk surrounded by nature and heritage, the Old Hall is a must-visit. Every time I go, I seem to spot something new in the brickwork or gardens. It’s like time slows down there, in the best way.

But Rufford isn’t just about the history. It’s also home to the legendary Rufford potatoes – something locals take real pride in. You’ll find them in practically every local supermarket, and once you’ve tried them, you’ll understand why. Whether you’re roasting, mashing, or making chips, they’ve got that proper homegrown flavour that makes everything taste just that little bit better. I picked up a fresh bag from a farm shop on the way home – can’t wait to cook with them this week.

Days like this are exactly why I love living where I do. The countryside isn’t just scenery – it’s a way of life, filled with local stories, proper produce, and places that ground you. Rufford is just one example of the treasures nearby, and I feel lucky to have it all on my doorstep.
