The Wheel of Life: A Reflection on Balance and Growth

Yesterday at work, we had our Health & Wellbeing Day—a valuable opportunity to pause and reflect on our life journeys. One of the activities I completed was the Wheel of Life, a powerful tool that helps visualize balance across different areas of life. When I filled mine out, it became clear that music is my greatest achievement. However, like most people, my wheel wasn’t a perfect circle. Some areas scored higher than others, highlighting where I thrive and where I need to grow.

What is the Wheel of Life?

The Wheel of Life is a simple yet effective self-assessment tool used in coaching and personal development. It typically consists of 8-10 key areas, such as:

  • Career
  • Finances
  • Health
  • Relationships
  • Personal Growth
  • Fun & Recreation
  • Environment
  • Spirituality

You score each area out of 10, then map it onto a circular chart. The result? A visual representation of your life’s balance—or imbalance. A perfect wheel is rare, but the insights it offers can be life-changing.

A Moment for Reflection

When I looked at my wheel, I realized that while music brings me deep fulfillment, there are areas I need to nurture. Some sections were strong and steady, while others needed attention. But that’s the beauty of the exercise—it’s not about perfection; it’s about awareness.

So, I ask you: What does your Wheel of Life look like?

If you were to sit down and complete this exercise, where would your highs and lows be? Would your wheel roll smoothly, or would it be a bumpy ride?

Taking a few moments to assess your life in this way can be incredibly powerful. It helps you set priorities, identify growth areas, and celebrate your wins. After all, life isn’t about achieving a perfect score—it’s about striving for a balance that feels right for you.

So why not grab a pen, draw your Wheel of Life, and see where your journey takes you?
